About Bill Thompson Boat Engineering
Bill Thompson (BE(Mech) UNSW, MBA Macq recently completed a long career with CSR Building Products building and managing manufacturing plants and leading product innovation in key product and construction segments. Bill has maintained a lifelong interest in boat construction encompassing wooden and fibreglass systems and related trades. This included attendance at the Advanced Fundamentals of Boatbuilding at the Woodenboat School in Brooklin Maine USA
Bill has extensive experience in traditional plank on frame boat construction, diesel and electric propulsion systems, rigging, machining, stainless steel and bronze fabrication including bronze foundry work, all undertaken in-house
Bill is active in racing on Sydney Harbour with Sydney Amateur Sailing Club on Isabella, a 7.5m Nordic Folkboat Isabella built by Bill between 2013 and 2020. Isabella is built using NZ Kauri planking on celery top pine ribs. She has a 5kW electric auxiliary drive with lithium ion batteries.
